Accommodation We understand how important housing and accommodation is for students arriving from overseas. It can be difficult to make a decision about permanent housing before you start your studies. Before you arrive in Melbourne, it’s a good idea to have some temporary accommodation sorted out. An international housing adviser can assist you., including advice on lease agreements and dealing with real estate agents. Visit www.swinburne.edu.au/accommodation Accommodation is an important part of your student life. It’s a fantastic way to meet your new classmates and to socialise on and off campus. The university helps to provide some on-campus accommodation, as well as a range of assistance and resources to help you find accommodation close to your campus. On-campus accommodation (Hawthorn) Accommodation options at Hawthorn campus provide a safe and supportive environment for students. The Hawthorn campus is close to the city, public transport, restaurants, supermarkets and some of the best shopping in Australia. There's no curfew, so you're free to enjoy the best that Melbourne has to offer, right on your doorstep. There are several types of accommodation conveniently available on the Hawthorn campus itself. The Swinburne Student Residences team determines placements, but all on-campus housing offers superb access to classes and local services. All students who live on campus have a private room that includes basic furniture such as a bed, chair and desk. Other appliances and facilities may be shared and only usable in communal areas. All college rooms are private, but with ready access to communal facilities. College rooms are all very similar, dormitory-style rooms, with common dining and social areas and a vibrant residential lifestyle. Resident Advisers are on hand to facilitate an inclusive and fun residential experience, and to assist with any issues around living on campus. All college rooms include basic furniture (bed, chair and desk) and access to shared kitchens with simple cooking equipment such as a toaster and kettle. Laundry and bathroom facilities are also communal. Bathrooms remain separate i.e. male and female. There is an accessible bathroom on one of the floors. Shared apartments Apartments on-campus accommodating two to four people offer greater independence and are perfect for students wanting more privacy than college rooms. Sharing an apartment is a great way to build friendships that last a lifetime while you study at Swinburne. In shared apartments, all residents have their own private room. You can choose to live in a standard room, or a larger and slightly more costly ‘deluxe’ room. The bedrooms have basic furniture, including a bed, desk, and chair. Studio apartments Studio apartments on campus offer the ultimate in privacy and independent living. If you prefer to live alone, a studio apartment may be the most suitable housing arrangement while you are at Swinburne. Off-campus accommodation Living away from campus can be a great way to experience Melbourne, while still having convenient access to Swinburne campus. • Renting and shared accommodation Know your rights and responsibilities when sharing or renting alone. • If you're looking to rent a property, you can contact a Swinburne housing adviser for information and support. There are housing advisers at all of Swinburne's campuses. • External accommodation providers offer many options near Swinburne. Homestay accommodation Homestay is an arrangement where students live with a local family or resident host in a private home. Homestays are an affordable way for international students to improve their English and experience Australian culture and lifestyle up close. Student accommodation and hostels You may also be interested in nearby off-campus options by external accommodation providers.
